The Burns Group provides opportunities for post-doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate research in mineralogy and actinide chemistry. Much of our current research is focused on making nuclear energy "greener" by laying a foundation of knowledge in actinide materials that will underpin an advanced nuclear energy system.
Graduate student applicants are welcome from those having (or finishing) an undergraduate degree in science or engineering such as geology, chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, etc.
Research opportunities are available for undergraduates at the University of Notre Dame during the academic year, or for undergraduates from Notre Dame or elsewhere during the summer months. Research can be done for academic credit in either the Department of Civil Engineering and Geological Sciences or the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, or a student can earn a stipend.
Further details concerning the research activities of the Burns group are given elsewhere on this www site, or you can contact Prof. Peter C. Burns at pburns@nd.edu
