Lab Facilities
In June, 2010 the Burns group moved to newly constructed research laboratories in Stinsen-Remick Hall. These laboratories are designed for research with actinide materials.
The instrument laboratory is shared with the Albrecht-Schmitt group and is adjacent to the synthesis laboratories. Instruments include:
Two Bruker Apex II Quasar micro-focus single-crystal X-ray diffractometers for structure determination using very small crystals
Bruker Apex II single-crystal X-ray diffractometer
Bruker Apex I single-crystal X-ray diffractometer
Bruker Nanostar small-angle X-ray scattering
Bruker Discover D8 powder diffractometer with HiStar detector, parallel beam geometry, Eulerian cradle
Bruker powder X-ray diffractometer with Lynxeye one-dimensional detector
SensIR micro-infrared spectrometer
Craig UV-vis microspectrometer
Dynamic light scattering (DLS)
Synthesis equipment includes:
Programable ovens and furnaces capable to temperatures to 1700 C
Four radiological fume hoods
Four double radiological glove boxes
Approximately 100 hydrothermal reaction vessels
Polarizing microscopes, balances, pH meters, etc.
