Lab Facilities

In June, 2010 the Burns group moved to newly constructed research laboratories in Stinsen-Remick Hall.  These laboratories are designed for research with actinide materials and contain four radiologic fume hoods and four double glove boxes.

The instrument laboratory is shared with the Albrecht-Schmitt group and is adjacent to the synthesis laboratories.  Instruments include:

Two Bruker Apex II Quasar micro-focus single-crystal X-ray diffractometers (one is currently on order)
Bruker Apex II single-crystal X-ray diffractometer
Bruker Apex I single-crystal X-ray diffractometer
Bruker Nanostar small-angle X-ray scattering
Bruker Discover D8 powder diffractometer with HiStar detector, parallel beam geometry, Eulerian cradle
Bruker powder X-ray diffractometer with Lynxeye one-dimensional detector (on order)
SensIR micro-infrared spectrometer
Micro UV-vis spectrometer
Synthesis equipment includes a range of ovens and furnaces capable to temperatures to 1700 C.
